Māori Minds was created by consultant psychiatrist Dr Kiri Prentice, of the iwi (tribes) of Ngai Tuhoe and Ngāti Awa, to share educational videos exploring Māori philosophy and mental health filmed at locations across
Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Kiri is passionate about highlighting the value of mātauranga Māori (Māori traditional knowledge) in re-framing mental health more broadly and in a less stigmatizing manner. Shifting focus from deficits and disease to mana motuhake (self-determination) and kotahitanga (unity). Kiri loves to build confidence in others, and make video resources that are friendly and accessible.
