Tarnia McCall
Convergence Co-Chair
My name is Tarnia McCall I am employee at Hanmer Clinic Tauranga. I have worked in my role as Peer Support Worker for nearly 5 years.
I first came in to this service as a client wanting support with my drug addiction, Hanmer Clinic became like a second home. After having a severe meth habit for 13 years I lost myself, connections with family and friends, including loosing custody of my daughter for 2 years; I had toxic relationships that resulted with domestic violence, I was stripped of everything because of my addiction. I had numerous attempts of getting clean.
Thankfully I now have been in recovery for over 8 years. I am super grateful to be able to give back to my community which has supported me to get where I am today.During my time at Hanmer I have supported many whaiora, some of which have gone on to be peer workers in the Bay of Plenty.
I seen a need for us to stay connected and strengthen relationships with other services and share our knowledge, experience and continue growing and learning together. This is when I created the group for peer workers in the Bay of Plenty which today is known as Convergence.
I love that we have a safe space for us and our relationships are strengthening. I look forward to what this year has to offer us and our community as a whole.
